A Brexit deal essentially impossible - that's what Number 10 says. Should we leave without a deal? Or do you want an extension to the deadline?
It will be "very difficult" for the UK and the EU to reach a Brexit agreement before the 31 October deadline, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said. He told RTE "big gaps" remained between the two sides. He also suggested the language around the discussions had turned toxic "in some quarters". His comments came after a No 10 source claimed that Germany was now making it "essentially impossible" for the UK to leave the EU with a deal. Stephen spoke to Kevin Maguire, Associate Editor of the Daily Mirror, commentator Andre Walker, UUP MLA Steve Aiken, SDLP leader Colum Eastwood and Alliance Party MLA Stephen Farry.
Also on the programme, the government will not refer to the current definition of a victim when it comes to drafting legislation for a Troubles pension, 91热爆 NI understands. Applicants to the pension will be asked to set out how they meet any future scheme's eligibility criteria, as opposed to whether they fit the definition of a victim. This could mean that paramilitaries who were convicted of an offence in relation to an attack they were injured in would be excluded. The current definition makes no distinction between paramilitaries who were killed or injured, and victims. So does this address the issue once and for all, and allow victims to finally get the pension they're entitled to? Stephen got reaction from Kenny Donaldson, from the group Innocent Victims United and Alan McBride from the Wave Trauma Centre.
