Thurston Moore

Songwriter, guitarist and founder of Sonic Youth, Thurston Moore joins Mark and Stuart to chat about his latest album.

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie present a feast of great music and chat for weekend breakfast.

On today's show... singer-songwriter, guitarist and founder of Sonic Youth, Thurston Moore joins Mark and Stuart. He formed the influential US rock band in 1981, has over the years collaborated with artists including Dave Grohl, Yoko Ono and Richard Hell and was included in Rolling Stones' Top 100 guitarists of all time. He joins Mark and Stuart to talk about his latest project - a 3 CD boxset called SPIRIT COUNSEL. Released today - International Peace Day - it's a collection of three extended compositions reflecting on, among other things, spiritual matters. One of the compositions - 'Galaxies’ - is an orchestral piece of music, where twelve guitarists are arranged as if one instrument. Thurston joins Mark and Stuart to tell them more about the project.

Also this morning... Clare Crane is here with the best music and entertainment stories of the past week in ‘This Week In Music’.

You can take part in The Chain, choosing a track for our world-famous list of interconnected songs, as it approaches number 8000! With a selection of music old and new to get the weekend started.
