Script:

Good morning. When my sisters dog Billie met snow for the first time, he rather took to it.聽 So much so that he brought some into the house and put it somewhere safe - for later.聽But when he came back to look for it, he was faced with two baffling mysteries: Who had stolen his snow?聽 And who had put all this water in his corner?聽 I鈥檓 not sure he learnt much from this experience 鈥 but I think I did.聽I can get very excited about new things.聽 I buy gadgets, music or books which seem brilliant on the day, and later, when the original excitement has died down I often come back, see them afresh, and find myself really wondering what I could have been thinking to buy them in the first place. Whatever magic there was has long melted away.
And that can sometimes happen with religious faith.聽 In the book of Revelation John reminds the Church at Ephesus that for all their hard work and commitment they appear to have lost something 鈥 he calls it their 鈥渇irst love鈥 - the joy that brought them to faith in the first place and the thrill of that first encounter with God.聽I suspect that many of us who profess a faith can at times become so pre-occupied with other priorities that our sense of wonder and delight in our faith can get shoved into a corner and forgotten about.聽But the good news is that whatever corner of our lives we may have shoved it into, unlike Billie鈥檚 snow, Christian faith teaches that that joy is still there, as fresh as the day we first experienced it.聽 And rediscovering it can be as much of a delight as it was that first time.聽Father God, we thank you that Your love is always there, never fades and is open to everyone of us. Amen
