The 178-year-old holiday firm went into compulsory liquidation in the early hours of Monday morning after last-minute negotiations failed.
The UK Civil Aviation Authority said the tour operator had ceased trading with immediate effect.
It's triggered the biggest peacetime repatriation, aimed at bringing more than 150,000 British holidaymakers home. All future flights and holidays have been cancelled and thousands of people are losing their jobs.
