Cambridge Folk Festival 2019
Mark Radcliffe presents highlights from the prestigious folk festival.
With Nick Mulvey, Richard Thompson, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita and more.
Mark Radcliffe presents live highlights from Europe's most prestigious folk festival, with music from Nick Mulvey, Richard Thompson, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan, Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita, McGoldrick McCusker & Doyle, and more.
The event, in the grounds of Cherry Hinton Hall, has been running since the mid 1960s.
Local boy Nick Mulvey is the festival's 'guest curator' this year, hand-picking his favourite acts to appear across the weekend. Mark shares highlights from Nick's own Main Stage set, which comes seven years after Nick's Cambridge Folk Festival debut.
Folk-rock legend Richard Thompson returns with one of his masterful solo acoustic performances, so loved by the Cambridge crowd. Guitarist and songwriter Thompson released his latest album, 13 Rivers, in 2018.
Acclaimed duo Nancy Kerr & James Fagan, who combine poetic songwriting with a deep affinity for traditional music, will perform a special set with a host of musical friends.
Welsh musician Catrin Finch, one of the leading harpists of her generation, and Senegalese kora player Seckou Keita teamed up in recent years to explore the potential relationship between their instruments and cultures. The result has been two award-winning albums and a string of dazzling concerts.
McGoldrick McCusker & Doyle are Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle. Hailing from England, Scotland and Ireland respectively, they are renowned throughout the scene (and beyond) for their exceptional talents on a wide range of instruments. McGoldrick and McCusker are regular members of Mark Knopfler's touring band. Here they unite with Doyle to make the contemporary Celtic folk music that made their names.
