Khyam Allami presents a playlist exploring microtonal music from around the world, including pieces from Terry Riley, Jamil Bashir and archive field recordings from Iraq.

Khyam Allami is a London-based Iraqi oud player, composer and a former member of Monsoon Bassoon and Knifeworld. His latest piece, 'Requiem for the 21st Century', commissioned by Opera North for the PRS New Music Biennial, features an installation made up of ouds, each fitted with its own speaker to play recordings of single notes, which in turn generate melodies based on maqams, traditional modes of Arabic music.

He explores these sounds further in his Freak Zone Playlist, including music by Secret Chiefs 3, Terry Riley, Jamil Bashir and archive field recordings from Iraq.
