This week, musician Beth Porter talks about all-star project 'The Lost Words - Spell Songs'.
The project is a musical extension of a popular book of poetry and paintings by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris: 'The Lost Words'. The book contains a series of acrostic poems about British flora and fauna. It was inspired by the fact that children increasingly did not possess the language to describe the natural world.
The 'Spell Songs' take the original poems in a musical direction. Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis, Seckou Keita, Kris Drever, Kerry Andrew, Rachel Newton, Beth Porter and Jim Molyneux have collaborated to create an album and book, complete with new paintings by Jackie.
On this week's Folk Show, cellist Beth Porter talks about the music and we hear readings of the original poems.
Plus the usual mix of exciting new releases, classic tracks and news from the folk world.
