Willie Nile
Singer songwriter Willie Nile shares his 1970s memories and plays his choice of 70s tunes.
Willie Nile is Johnnie's guest and talks about his recollections of the 1970s.
The singer songwriter didn't actually release his first official recording until 1980, but he spent the 1970's honing his craft in New York's Greenwich Village. Born to an Irish Catholic family in New York, Willie studied Philosophy at the University of Buffalo before beginning his career in music. His progress was interrupted by a bout of pneumonia. It took him a year to recover so he wrote songs to pass the time. Once he was on his feet again, Willie soaked up the New York music scene of the 70s, spending time at the now legendary CBGB club, watching the likes of the Patti Smith Group, Television and Talking Heads. He was discovered by the New York Times critic, Robert Palmer, after establishing a residency at Kenny's Castaways in Greenwich Village and went on to sign with Arista Records. Willie then released his self titled debut album at the dawn of the 1980's.
Elsewhere in the show, a listener picks their must-have track to add to Johnnie's Jukebox and Johnnie takes a look at This Week In Music in the 1970s, courtesy of the 91热爆 Archives.
