Swans Migrating

In Tune鈥檚 specially curated playlist, including two musical impressions of that majestic creature of myth, the swan.

In Tune鈥檚 specially curated playlist, including two musical impressions of that majestic creature of myth, the swan. Jordi Savall and Hesperion XXI play an Ottoman piece collected by Cantemir, a 17th century scholar, composer, advisor, prince, and performer. There's a serene motet from Orlande de Lassus, Beethoven played by master pianist Mikhail Pletnev, and a much-loved waltz from Tchaikovsky. Plus, musical pearls from two Finnish composers: Einojuhani Rautavaara's orchestral patterning mimics the flight of migrating birds, layered over recorded tape of Whooper swans, and Sibelius' radiant Humoresque imparts "the anguish of existence... fitfully lit up by the sun" (Jean Sibelius).
