Episode 9
Eachdraidh Ameireagaidh ann an dath airson a’ chiad uair. The story of America’s past, seen in colour for the first time.
Aig toiseach an fhicheadamh linn, bha an Iar fhathast na à ite fiadhaich. Dh’ fheuch tòrr ri cheannsachadh agus chaidh seann sgeulachdan agus uirsgeulan a dhèanamh de na h-oidhirpean aca – daoine a’ losgadh air a chèile aig OK Corral agus cogaidhean Innseanach. Thairis air an ath shia deicheadan, bhris ‘An Iar’ a-mach às a’ chumadh seo gu bhith na à ite là n spionnaidh a bheireadh buaidh air Ameireaga san là an-diugh.
Bho thoiseach tòiseachaidh chaidh rannsachadh agus smachd a ghabhail air na tìrean fiadhaich, dh’ atharraich an Iar gu bhith na à ite neartmhor poilitigeach agus eaconamach a thug cruth atharrachadh air Ameireaga agus air an t-saoghal air fad. Ach tha tìrean creagach bòidheach an Iar, a bha uair gu math mòr eagalach, fhathast mar a bha iad. Tha am prògram seo ag innse na sgeulachd ann an dath, mu deireadh an ‘Wild West’, agus an uirsgeul mhaireannach a chaidh a chruthachadh.
At the start of the 20th Century, The West was still a wild land. Many tried to tame it and their efforts became the stuff of legend and myth - gunfights at the OK Corral and Indian Wars. Over the next six decades ‘The West’ broke out of this mould becoming the dynamic region that trail blazes modern America.
From the frontier of exploration and conquering of the wild lands, the West transformed into an economic and political powerhouse, that drove change across America and the world. But the ruggedness and beauty of the land which once made it so formidable still remains. This programme tells the story, in colour film, of the end of the Wild West and the harnessing of its enduring legend.
