A huge fire has devastated Notre Dame Cathedral in the heart of the French capital, destroying its spire and a large part of the roof.

It's known as Our Lady of Paris, the place where Joan of Arc was beatified and Napoleon crowned Emperor of France. But Notre Dame Cathedral - one of the world's most iconic landmarks - stands ravaged by fire this morning. The spire and roof of the medieval building are destroyed, but the main structure, including the two towers, has been saved. President Macron says a complete disaster has been avoided, and that fundraising to rebuild the cathedral will start later this morning. He's also paid tribute to those called out to fight the flames - one of whom has been seriously injured.
