Pàirc-campachaidh Horgaboist/Horgabost Campsite

A fascinating profile of a summer season in the unique beauty, peace and tranquility of west-coast Harris campsite.

Gach Samhradh tha Horgabost, baile beag air taobh siar na Hearadh sna h- Eileanan an Iar, a’ tighinn beò. Stèidhte ann an àite eireachdail tha luchd-turais a’ tighinn bho fad is farsaing, air an tàladh le bòidhchead iongantach, agus muir ghorm agus tràighean bragha na Hearadh. Cothrom fois agus sìth fhaighinn.

Dha Richard MacIllinnein ge-tà, a rugadh agus a chaidh a thogail ann an Horgabost, chan eil cothrom ann fois fhaighinn idir. Mar neach-gleidhidh na pàirce campachaidh sa bhaile tha e na bhoil agus tha sinn ga leantainn thar mìosan trang an t-samhraidh – bho a bhith a’ cumail sùil air a’ phàirc campachaidh, croitearachd, agus a bhith ag obair airson leabaidh is bracaist agus a’ bhan-bìdh aige.

Coinnichidh sinn cuideachd ri cuid de na campairean agus luchd-turais, agus cluinnidh sinn mu na tha fàgail Horgaboist cho sònraichte. Bhon fheadhainn a tha a’ tilleadh bliadhna as dèidh bliadhna, agus iadsan a chaidh a thogail san sgìre agus a chunnaic mar a dh’ fhàs e.
Pàirc-campachaidh Horgaboist – sealladh taitneach air samhradh ammeasg bòidhchead sònraichte agus fois is sìth taobh siar na Hearadh.

Each summer, Horgabost, a small township on the west side of Harris in the Western Isles, comes to life. Its fantastic location attracts tourists from all over the world who come to enjoy the stunning beauty, and pristine, turquoise sea water and golden beaches of the Isle of Harris. A time to chill and recharge the batteries.

For Richard Maclennan, though, who was born and brought up in Horgabost, it’s anything but chill-time. As custodian of the campsite he is flat out and we follow him through the busy summer months - from managing the campsite, crofting, working at his B&B, and making food in his catering van. It’s nonstop for Richard as he caters for the campers every needs.

We also meet some of the campers and visitors and hear why Horgabost is so special, from those who come back year after year, and those who live locally and have seen it grow and flourish.
