Sarfraz Ahmed’s alleged racist comments
Should cricketer Sarfraz Ahmed be charged by the ICC for apparently calling another player 'kaala'?
Should Sarfraz Ahmed be charged by the ICC for calling another player Kaala? Qasa is asking this after it appears the Pakistan captain was caught on microphone allegedly making racist comments to a black South African batsman during a cricket match. The word ‘Kaala’ means black in some South Asian languages but there have been complaints that the context for using the word was derogatory and racist. After that Qasa hears from the Sikh Project’s Amit and Naroop about their photography book ‘Turbans and Tales’. It’s part of a project they created to capture and define what the modern Sikh identity represents. Then we speak to director Tabrez Noorani and actor Richa Chadda about their involvement in a new film called ‘Love, Sonia’. It’s about two underage sisters who unwittingly end up in the brothels of Mumbai – far away from the village they grew up in. And Qasa is joined by Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan, Waithera Sebatindira and Lola Olufemi who are three of the four women behind a new book called ‘A Fly Girls Guide To University’. It gives their account of being a woman of colour studying at Cambridge University.
