As part of 6 Music’s season celebrating ‘Black Power’ Craig Charles presents a Special Edition of his ‘Funk and Soul Show’. Over the course of the show Craig will tell the story of how Black Music, Culture, Sport and Politics all collided during 1968 - a year of Revolution. Funk and Soul had long been the soundtrack for political and social change, and this came to a head in 1968 - a year of assassination and riots that culminated with the famous ‘Black Power’ salute at the 1968 Olympic Games. Using his extensive record collection, his house band ’The History Teachers’ and 91Èȱ¬ News archive, Craig will take the listener back to those turbulent days of 1968 as he tells the story of a year that changed the world. Expect tunes from the likes of James Brown, Otis Redding, Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin.
