Ricky Ross sits in for Mark Radcliffe and plays the best folk and acoustic music from Britain and beyond.
This week, acclaimed American songwriter Ana茂s Mitchell speaks about her 'folk opera', Hadestown.
The musical is a contemporary version of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Written by Ana茂s about 10 years ago, Hadestown became a studio album in 2010 and an off-Broadway stage play a few years later. In November 2019, a new version will open at London's National Theatre.
Filled with timely references and themes, Hadestown also features typically excellent music composed by Ana茂s, and she explains all in this edition of the Folk Show.
