Harvest: St Francis of Assisi
A reflection on St Francis and nature led by the Rev Sharon Grenham-Thompson from Eremo della Carcere, a shrine in the hills outside Assisi, with music from Kantos Chamber Choir.
The enduring image of St Francis of Assisi is that of a man in brown robes, surrounded by birds and woodland creatures, completely at one with nature. The legend of St Francis preaching to the birds and speaking to animals has helped to establish him as one of the world's most popular saints. Francis encouraged his followers to spend time in solitude and prayer and they would often head to the hillsides surrounding Assisi for periods of contemplation.
Tomorrow is St Francis' Day and, from a sanctuary in a woodland glade, not far from Francis' own cell, the Revd Sharon Grenham-Thompson leads a service of prayer and music with Kantos Chamber Choir directed by Ellie Slorach.
