91热爆 National Orchestra of Wales and Tadaaki Otaka perform Mussorgsky's orchestration of Ravel's Pictures at an Exhibition. Sir Thomas Allen sings Vaughan Williams' Songs of Travel

Conductor Laureate Tadaaki Otaka takes to the stage with the 91热爆 National Orchestra of Wales for the opening concert of their season, live from St. David鈥檚 Hall in Cardiff and presented by Nicola Heyward Thomas. Vaughan Williams鈥� deeply personal depictions of English music dominates the first half, from the chants and echoes of an English Renaissance cathedral in his haunting Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, to his setting of Robert Lewis Stevenson's Songs of Travel, for which the orchestra will be joined by Sir Thomas Allen. This is contrasted in the second half by Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, in the famous orchestration by Ravel. A tribute to his departed friend, the artist Victor Hartmann, Pictures at an Exhibition takes the listener around an exhibition of ten of Hartmann's paintings, culminating in The Great Gate of Kiev.
