The LSO opens its new season with an all-British programme, featuring the world premiere of Sir Harrison Birtwistle鈥檚 new Fanfare and Mark-Anthony Turnage鈥檚 double trumpet concerto Dispelling the Fears.

Holst鈥檚 Egdon Heath evokes the world of Thomas Hardy鈥檚 major works, a place 鈥榓ccordant with man's nature 鈥� neither ghastly, hateful, nor ugly; 鈥� but, like man, slighted and enduring鈥�. Britten鈥檚 symphony, by contrast, reflects on 鈥榯he progress of winter to spring and the reawakening of the earth and life鈥�.
