The police commander at Hillsborough Stadium in 1989, David Duckenfield, is to stand trial for the manslaughter by gross negligence of 96 Liverpool fans.

There's been another development in the long campaign for justice for the Liverpool fans who died in the Hillsborough disaster. The police officer in charge at the ground that day in 1989, David Duckenfield, is to stand trial for the manslaughter by gross negligence of the 96. An order preventing him from being tried was imposed after a private prosecution 18 years ago - but this morning, a judge ruled that it should be lifted. The retired police chief superintendent is set to go on trial at Preston Crown Court in September.
