This will be the 74th meeting between the European neighbours, but without doubt the most important. Both teams are littered with world-class talent and the attacking riches they have at their disposal has led to expectation that this could be a classic.
France coach Didier Deschamps lifted the trophy on the only occasion Les Bleus won the World Cup 20 years ago. His young squad took their time to find their feet in Russia but enjoyed a comfortable victory over Uruguay in the quarter-finals.
