Live from the Hay Festival
Hay festival special - are mainstream story books 'too white'?
Qasa Alom is at the Hay festival, which brings the literary and cultural world to the Welsh countryside. But are our schools, libraries and bookshops 'too white'? We also follow a group of schoolgirls from Bradford as they make their first ever visit to Hay, and talk to Syima Aslam from the Bradford Literature Festival who organised their trip. If you've ever thought about writing a book , then writer Jennifer Lunn and Carla Josephson, editor of Borough Press, tell Qasa what publishers are looking for. These days books aren't the only way of telling stories - podcasts and ebooks are also becoming popular options. Durre Shahwar, associate editor for Wales Arts Review and writer Hanan Issa discuss the different ways of telling stories. Finally, award-winning poet Tishani Doshi reads some of her work and explains why she chooses poetry to express herself.
