22/05/2018 - 'I think it's because they gave you bone china cups'

What did the 'bone' mean in 'rag and bone man'? T Mac thinks it dates back to the Black Death when they took the dead away. Sean has his own theory.

What did the 'bone' mean in 'rag and bone man'? T Mac thinks it dates back to the Black Death when they took the dead away. Sidney thinks the bones were taken away to make fertiliser. Sean is not impressed and has his own theory. Alan thinks 'Run like the clappers' comes from wooden boards that children used to make a clapping noise before running through the fields to clear the birds. Mickey Todd says a boy was running out of a butcher's shop with a chicken under his arm. The butcher shouted 'What are you doing with that chicken?' And the boy shouted back 'Chips and onions'. Which isn't bad, as Sean admits. Music from Brad Paisley, Ronan Keating, Rita Coolidge, Mrs Mills, The Equals, Ben E King, Neil Young and more.
