The head of the republic's health service resigns over the cervical smear test scandal.
The Director General of the Health Service Executive in the Republic Tony O'Brien will step down from his position with effect from close of business today following the Cervical Check cancer scandal. His early departure follows two weeks of controversy over cervical smears and the Vicky Phelan case, and a powerful interview on RT脡 radio yesterday morning by Emma Mhic Mathuna who has terminal cancer.
One was a former IRA commander; the other a British army chaplain. The two men became great friends - but there was a price to pay. The Presbyterian Minister - the Reverend David Latimer - has broken his silence on how his friendship with Martin McGuinness split his church and led to dozens of families walking out, some of whom had lost loved ones at the hands of the organisation led by Mr McGuinness.
