This week Adam meets the competitors preparing to take part in the Welsh final of Famelab, a UK-wide competition to find the very best communicators among scientists at the beginning of their career, people who can take a knotty scientific concept and make it fun and engaging.听

The Welsh final takes place in Swansea this week and each competitor has just three minutes to capture the audience鈥檚 interest and tell them something amazing. Adam Walton talks to three of the competitors -听Tom Savage, Laura O' Dea and Mark White - about the challenges of听distilling their research into an entertaining 180 seconds.听

Tom tells us why the Universe shouldn't actually exist; Laura explains the science of rust; and Mark reveals why Usain Bolt is the fastest man in the world.

He also听talks to Rhian Melita Morris from Swansea University, organiser of the Welsh heats of FameLab. And we hear from Carol Glover, winner of听last year's Welsh final.

And the winner of the Welsh final for听FameLab 2018 听is.... Laura O'Dea! Congratulations to Laura and to runner-up Elizabeth Evans.听Laura will听now go on to compete in the UK FameLab final, to be held at the Cheltenham Science Festival in June.
