Money Box Live: Apprenticeships

How good are apprenticeships in the UK? The government wants 3 million of them by 2020, but so far, number are falling. Why? Are they the best way to develop skills?

What's it like being an apprentice? The government wants employers to create 3 million apprenticeships by 2020, to improve training, develop skills and help boost productivity. But latest figures show the number of apprenticeships continues to fall, ever since a new funding scheme was introduced in April 2017. So why is it not working? And what are the alternatives? Louise Cooper and guests discuss how best to learn on the job.

If you have experience of being an apprentice or maybe you're an employer offering apprenticeships, share your stories. Email moneybox@bbc.co.uk or call 03700 100 444 from 1pm to 3.30pm on Wednesday 31 January 2018. Standard geographic charges from landlines and mobiles will apply.
