The Dartmoor Challenge

The Dartmoor Challenge

The exposed Devon hills of Dartmoor are the site of Matt Baker’s ramble challenge.Ìý This is a varied and demanding landscape of tors, bogs and open moorland.Ìý It’s route generally attempted by more hardened walkers, but on which Matt will be joined by 19 year old Georgia, who awoke seven years ago from an operation to remove a brain tumour, unable to walk at all. But Georgia is made of special stuff and has fought back, now she's attempting her longest walk since the operation.Ìý

The Welsh Waterfall Ramble

The Welsh Waterfall Ramble

The Vale of Neath in the southern Brecon Beacons is known as ‘waterfall country’.Ìý Carved out by the last ice age, this magical landscape is defined by its steep tree-lined gorges and tumbling waters.Ìý Ellie Harrison leads a small group of ramblers on a trek ending at south Wales’s largest waterfall, the mighty Henrhyd Falls. Accompanying Ellie is 17-year old Amy, born deaf and conquering her fears of groups and water in an epic day for her.

The Big Bristol Ramble

The Big Bristol Ramble

For Adam Henson it’s the big one, leading a group of hundreds through countryside on the edge of the south west’s largest city. Adam’s route starts in style, crossing the city’s famous Clifton Suspension Bridge before winding through the Ashton Court Estate.ÌýThese 850 acres of wood and grassland are a rural refuge from urban life and, as Adam discovers, the test site for the founding father of hot air ballooning, Don Cameron.ÌýJoining the ramble are the Penn family.Ìý Three of their children have life limiting Batten Disease and this is a day for them to raise awareness of the condition and make memories that will last for years to come.

The Scottish Beach Ramble

The Scottish Beach Ramble

Anita Rani’s heading to the stunning white sands of Scotland’s west coast.ÌýMade famous by films such as Local Hero, Anita discovers what gives these beaches and their waters such a distinctive tropical look, as she guides 50 Countryfile viewers across the sands.Ìý Stepping out with Anita and the group are 11 year old Logan and his dad. Logan’s received vital support from Children in Need after his mum passed away from cancer a year ago.

The Northern Irish Forest Ramble

The Northern Irish Forest Ramble

Northern Ireland’s Castlewellan Forest Park sits in the shadow of the Mourne Mountains.ÌýIt houses this nation’s National Arboretum, and is the site of John Craven’s ramble.Ìý John leads 100 viewers and a group from YMCA Lurgan, helped by Children in Need, through the autumnal splendour of this landscape.Ìý For John, it’s also a trip down memory lane as he visits the park’s Peace Maze, one of the largest permanent hedge mazes in the world, where saplings he first saw 15 years ago have now grown strong and tall.

The Roving Ramble

The Roving Ramble

This week Tom Heap’s a man on a mission.ÌýAs tens of thousands of you put on your own Countryfile rambles for Children in Need up and down the country, our intrepid investigator’s job is to catch up with as many of them as possible.Ìý Along the way Tom bumps one of the founders of the West Pennine Way on the Lancashire hills and employs 21st century technology to virtually drop in on rambles taking place from South Shields to Shoreham.Ìý
