A man remains in a critical condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital after he was assaulted by a number of men in Derry city centre. The victim, who is in his thirties, suffered head injuries in the attack in the early hours of yesterday morning in Newmarket Street. A large part of the busy shopping area was cordoned off for most of yesterday morning as the police launched a major investigation. The attack comes less than a month after the death of teenager Jordan McConomy - who was also attacked during a night out. Questions are again being raised about safety in Derry city centre at night.
