Janet Emery has been trying for decades to find her birth mother, who left a young Janet with relatives to start a new life in Canada with a soldier during World War II. After years of unsuccessfully trawling through records, Janet had given up on her search, but her daughter Deborah never gave up hope and helped find Janet's mum's sister Ann and her children Tony and Jane. Deborah meets her new-found cousins for the very first time and they bring some photos Janet has never seen before of her mum, which show her in Canada with her two daughters - Janet's half-sisters. Janet and Deborah hire family-tracing agency to try and find these sisters, and they soon call with some great news - they have found them in Canada, and they would both love to connect with Janet.

After years of searching, Denise finally traced and met up with her mum Elsie, discovering that she had four other half-sisters, all of whom had been given up for adoption. Denise meets up with one of her new-found sisters, Kathy, and they travel together to Manchester, where they were both born.
