Roy Jenkins presents the first of two programmes featuring the fascinating life of Una Kroll, who died earlier this month at the age of 91.聽 We spoke to her for All Things Considered more than a decade ago when she was living in Monmouth as a hermit committed to prayer, but she鈥檇 been a missionary nun, doctor, author, parliamentary candidate, campaigner for justice, spiritual director and mother of four.聽 She was among the first women priests ordained in the Anglican Church in Wales, though she spent her later years in the Roman Catholic Church.

Una Kroll鈥檚 parents had grown up in Tsarist Russia, and both had been involved in gathering wartime intelligence for the British government.聽 The marriage didn鈥檛 last, and her father disappeared from Una鈥檚 life when she was just eighteen months old.
