Mungur Family

Episode 6 of 24

Although Nazeem Mungur has never been to Australia, he is convinced that a new life on the Gold Coast could help turn his health around.

A horrific car crash eight years ago left Nazeem Mungur the shadow of the man he once was. Fed up and frustrated, he is now desperate to be a more hands-on husband and father. Family holidays abroad have shown the benefits of being in a warmer climate and, although he has never been to Australia, he is now convinced that emigrating to the southern hemisphere could help turn his health around. While wife Joanne supports her husband's desire for a fresh start, she is nervous about the prospect of uprooting their young children to a country they have never even visited. With Nazeem unable to work, she knows the pressure would be solely on her to provide financial security and she also worries about breaking strong bonds with the family and friends who offer so much support in the UK.

Nazeem is now hoping that a trial week in Australia's Gold Coast will reveal the promise of a better quality of life and put to bed Joanne's concerns about a move. So, will their journey lead to a healthier happier future for the whole family or will the reality of moving to the other side of the world signal the end of the road for Nazeem's dream?

Mungar family update

Since filming, Joanne had a successful interview with the Gold Coast hospital and was offered a senior position of Clinical Nurse. The Mungurs decided to make the move Down Under. 听Joanne is due to start work at the end of January. 听They applied for a 457 visa and got the approval within 10 days!

Despite putting the house on the market in August it is currently still for sale.

Nazeem also had another setback after filming when he discovered a suspicious lump in his neck. He had surgery to remove this and after complications he had a stay in ICU. Thankfully it turned out to be non-cancerous and he is recovering well.

Jo and Nazeem made the move to the Gold Coast on 1st December 2016 following the filming of the show. When the filming had ended last summer, they researched and visited areas to live and fell in love with the suburbs of Upper Coomera and Helensvale.

Since arriving in Australia they have found a lovely 4 bedroom bungalow to rent with a 5 minute walk to a local school. Outside there is loads of space for the kids to play.

They are adapting really well to life down under, enjoying the Aussie way of BBQ鈥檌ng and outdoor living, and celebrating their first Christmas Ozzie style with a BBQ with friends.

They are very much looking forward to a warmer, brighter future in Australia.
