Fiona Talkington presents highlights from the Martha Argerich Project 2016.
Founded fifteen years ago by the legendary Argentinian pianist, Martha Argerich to nurture and promote talented young performers, the city of Lugano has become each year a melting pot of ideas and a training centre for musical ensembles. This week she can be heard in collaborations with musicians young and old in what is probably her final festival in Lugano. Later in the week she can be heard as a soloist in Ravel's Gaspard and in partnership with Stephen Kovacevich, whilst today's programme sees young musicians collaborating in music by Richard Strauss and a seldom heard arrangement of Bach by Max Reger, whose music was featured at the festival.
