Nightmare in Newbridge
It was a scandal that rocked the close knit community of Newbridge in Caerphilly County. Last December, a mysterious figure calling himself Eric Harvey arrived in town, opening a string of firms to the delight of the locals.
But within months his business empire collapsed and one of his companies 鈥 Newbridge Travel 鈥 owed thousands to holiday-makers like David and Korean Tonge. Residents were later shocked to find Mr Harvey was using a fake name. He was in fact a convicted fraudster who鈥檇 boasted on-line about his criminal past.
Problem paint pots
Customers of the UK鈥檚 largest DIY retailer say their cars are being ruined by paint spilling from insecure tins sold at their stores.听 In all, 11 people from across Britain have contacted X-Ray to complain about the paint damage to their vehicles.听
They all bought five litre tins of Valspar paint, which is sold exclusively at B&Q, and in all cases the paint spilled inside their cars while it was being transported home.
According to product design expert Jarred Evans, the problem lies with the plastic seal on the lid of the paint tin, which he describes as 鈥渘ot fit for purpose.鈥澨 Both B&Q and Valspar stress that the tins are rigorously tested at every stage of the supply chain and there are no plans to change their design.
