Also featuring an appreciation of composer, pianist and organist Sir Charles Thompson. Awarded his 'title' by saxophonist Lester Young, Charles Thompson who died on the 16th of June, was one of the last survivors of the swing era. A regular collaborator with jazz greats such as Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, and Miles Davis, Charles Thompson was also active in the blues world and is heard here both in solo recordings and in partnership with with singers Brother John Sellers, Jimmy Rushing and Jimmy Witherspoon.
