Hearts and Voices
Monday 15th August - Cecil Frances Alexander
In the first in our week-long series of programmes on famous hymn writers, today's Daily Service comes from St John's Church, Malone, in Belfast and explores the life and work of the nineteenth century Irish hymn writer, Cecil Frances Alexander. Born Cecil Frances Humphreys in Wicklow in 1818, she spent most of her life in the Northwest of Ireland. Before her marriage to the Rev William Alexander, later Bishop of Derry, she wrote a number of hymns, initially for children, on the clauses of the Apostles' Creed. The service is led by Rev Dr Bert Tosh and music is provided by the Osborne Singers, directed by Richard Campbell with organist Stephen Hamill.
