Johnnie hears 70s memories from John Illsley of Dire Straits.

Johnnie Walker hears seventies memories from John Illsley, bassist with Dire Straits.

John's musical career started while he was studying in London during the decade, where he befriended his flatmate David Knopfler. Along with David's brother Mark and Pick Withers, Dire Straits formed in 1977. The group made their debut with "Sultans of Swing" and have gone on to spent over 1,100 weeks on the UK Album Chart with numerous BRIT and Grammy Awards to their name.

Also on the show, Johnnie digs out some of the best of the 91Èȱ¬ archive, and another listener helps to add a classic seven-inch single into Johnnie's Jukebox.
