Tom Robinson asks for listeners' suggestions for a Pink Floyd playlist, following news that Royal Mail are releasing a set of stamps to mark the band's fiftieth anniversary.
With news Royal Mail are releasing a set of stamps to honour 50 years since Pink Floyd turned professional it makes sense to create a playlist this Sunday around the band. Another Lick In The Wall, if you will.
There will be 10 stamps in total including album covers such as The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Some of the stamps will celebrate the band's live performances - portraying Pink Floyd's psychedelic light shows and the staging of their The Wall album.
Pink Floyd need no introduction so here are some facts about the band with some ideas for suggestions thrown in...
They have released 15 studio albums, selling over 100 million albums they are the most commercially successful and influential rock band of all time.
They are pioneers of live performances - lavish stage shows mixed with high standards in sound quality; making use of innovative sound & light techniques - their slide-and-light show was one of the first in British rock, and it helped them became popular among London's underground, for example.
They have influenced people like David Bowie, U2, Queen, Radiohead, Kraftwerk,The Orb, Smashing Pumpkins...
They cite artists like The Beatles, Stones, Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry and Love as people that inspired them.
They helped finance Monty Pythons film 'The Holy Grail'...
Gilmour is an amazing guitarist - Rolling Stone ranked Gilmour number 14 in their "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" calling him "the missing link between Hendrix and Van Halen."
There's some stuff to go on in regards of where to go for suggestions but remember to state WHY you want the song you want. Why is it special to you and why are the band important to YOU.
