With Peter Doherty

Mary Anne Hobbs has an in-depth chat with solo artist and Libertines co-frontman Peter Doherty.

Mary Anne is joined for an in-depth chat by solo artist and Libertines co-frontman Peter Doherty.

At the age of 16, Peter won a poetry competition and embarked on a tour of Russia. Two years later, he formed The Libertines and released three successful studio albums (Up the Bracket, The Libertines, Anthems for Doomed Youth).

In 2014, after a four year hiatus and a short side career with Babyshambles, Peter and the band returned, playing gigs at Glastonbury festival, Reading & Leeds, and a series of smaller, more intimate shows around London.

This year, Peter embarks on a solo career - he released his first single,'The World Is Our Playground' for Record Store Day 2016 and will be on tour with his new set until November, 2016.

In part one of this interview, Mary Anne talks to Peter about his childhood, school, his love of poetry, and how it feels to be writing music twenty years after he first began...
