Asian Network Presents profiles one of world cinema's most respected names, Raj Kapoor, who began his career as a clapper-boy but went on to become one of Bollywood's forefathers as a director, actor and producer.

To mark the week which would have seen his 91st birthday, 'The Showman of India' chronicles the life of Raj Kapoor from his first screen appearance at the age of 10 in 1935's 'Inquilab' to writing the rules of Bollywood cinema, many that are still followed to this day.

Presented by Tommy Sandhu, with contributions from Raj Kapoor's eldest son Randhir Kapoor, music composer and lyricist Ravindra Jain, film critic Anil Sinanan and with archived interviews of Raj Kapoor himself, 'The Showman of India' presents a whirlwind celebration of the life and career of Bollywood's first global star.
