To tackle the highly concentrated pattern of land ownership in Scotland the Government wants one million acres of Scotland to be in owned by communities 2020. Euan visits the Community of Leadhills in South Lanarkshire which wants to buy land from the Leadhills estate.

Dougie visits the island of Mull to meet the people behind the North West Mull Community Woodland Company. The buyout has created nine new Woodland Crofts. One of them has been taken on by the Munro family who will benefit from having a secure lease.

Duke of Buccleuch

Duke of Buccleuch

The Duke of Buccleuch is Scotland’s largest private landowner. He has around a quarter of a million acres of land on his Buccleuch estates. Euan travelled to Dumfries and Galloway to meet the 10th Duke to seek his reaction to the Government’s land reform plans.

Sarah travels across the North sea to find out about the highly regulated system of Land ownership that exists in Norway. The Norwegians restrict not only who can own land but how much land can be in the possession of an individual.
