What would you do if your teenager became violent towards you? Aggression and physical abuse are hidden issues that many parents are afraid to talk about for fear of being labelled bad parents. Over a 12 month period, the parenting and family support charity Family Lives received nearly a thousand calls regarding incidents of verbal abuse, and over 300 calls, concerning physical violence towards females in the home. trustee and Relate-trained counsellor Suzie Hayman speaks to Jenni about how to cope with angry and aggressive teenagers.

The Insolvency Service’s annual figures have shown that while the total number of insolvencies decreased last year, for the first time the individual insolvency rate for women is higher than that of men. We hear about one woman’s experience of filing for bankruptcy, and speak to Louise Brittain of R3, the trade body representing insolvency practitioners, and to an expert in personal insolvency at Wilkins Kennedy  about some of the reasons behind the increase.

A year ago today the Commonwealth Games opened in Glasgow. It was the largest sporting event ever held in Scotland, with nearly five thousand athletes from 71 countries and territories competing in 18 different sports. The success of the games relied on thousands of volunteers to help the events move smoothly. We sent our reporter Leanne Coyle to meet Jane McLaughlin and Rebecca Smith – whose lives changed as a direct result of their experiences as volunteers at the games.
