Dame Evelyn Glennie on a musical career that's spanned more than thirty years. Profoundly deaf since the age of 12, the solo percussionist will be returning to the Proms with a special concert in August that will also mark her fiftieth birthday. New guidelines are issued today for medical professionals on the care of women with female genital mutilation and safeguarding of girls at risk - what impact will they have? Thirty years after the publication of Margaret Atwood's classic novel The Handmaid's Tale, we ask how much of the future it describes is born out by current trends in the world today. Emergency contraception is now licensed for sale to girls under the age of 16 - we discuss the issues raised by teen access to the 'morning after pill'.

Dame Evelyn Glennie鈥檚 musical career has spanned more than thirty years. Profoundly deaf since the age of 12, she was the first person in history to have a full time career as a solo percussionist.聽She has recently been awarded the 2015 Polar Music prize, which is considered the music industry鈥檚 equivalent of the Nobel Prize. She will be returning to the Proms with a special concert in August that will also mark her fiftieth birthday.聽takes place on the 10th August at 1pm Cadogan Hall, London, and it is broadcast live on 聽and available to listen back to .

Handmaid's Tale
Margaret Atwood鈥檚 classic novel, The Handmaid鈥檚 Tale, was first published in 1985. A line on the first paperback edition said 鈥渕akes the future believable鈥.聽Thirty years on writer Aminatta Forna and writer and campaigner Natasha Walter discuss how much Margaret Atwood鈥檚 creation, a theocracy called the Republic of Gilead -聽where women are governed and policed by men, where modesty for women is all, where reading is forbidden, infertility is a huge problem and surrogacy is the norm聽- reflects current trends in the world.
Revised FGM Gidelines
Revised guidelines to provide clarity on the clinical care of women with female genital mutilation (FGM) are published today by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. It's the first time they've been updated since 2009.聽We speak to one of the authors of the new guidelines, Professor Sarah Creighton, consultant gynaecologist at University College Hospital London and to Naana Otoo-Oyortey MBE, Executive Director of the FGM聽charity FORWARD.

In April a decision by the European Medicines Agency made the emergency contraceptive pill ellaOne available to buy at pharmacies by all women of reproductive age 鈥 a move that makes it also possible to buy by girls under 16.
