Rewind - Quarter-Final Classics
Guy Mowbray unearths memorable games from the FA Cup's sixth round, including Everton v Ipswich in 1985, Derby v Sheffield Wednesday in 1993 and Man Utd v Portsmouth in 2008.
Guy Mowbray looks at more FA Cup sixth-round classics from years gone by. This show centres on Everton's meeting with Ipswich in 1985. Howard Kendall's Toffees side were the cup holders following their victory over Watford the previous May, and they had also not conceded a goal since the sixth round the previous year. Ipswich, on the other hand, were struggling at the wrong end of the table. Yet, as ever, the Cup made a mockery of league positions. Derby and Sheffield Wednesday were also involved in an equally intriguing and entertaining tie at the Baseball Ground in 1993. Trevor Francis's visitors were looking to maintain a proud cup record that season, having already reached the League Cup semi-finals. The other game sees Manchester United, the eventual league champions from the 2007-08 campaign, take on Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth side at Old Trafford.
