Travel show. In Istria, Croatia, Angela Scanlon and Joe Lindsay visit Pula, home to one of the world's largest amphitheatres, and take an excursion to the Brijuni Islands.

This week Angela Scanlon and Joe Lindsay are in Istria in northern Croatia to find out what's on offer. It's known as a beach destination, but it throws up unexpected surprises in its historic towns and is gaining a reputation as a culinary hotspot. Highlights for Joe and Angela include a visit to Pula, home of one of the world's largest amphitheatres, an excursion to the Brijuni Islands, the holiday playground of former Yugoslav leader Marshal Tito, and a sunset boat trip accompanied by a cappella singers. Angela also takes a short getaway to County Tyrone, where she explores the Ulster American Folk Park, revs up rally driving in the Sperrins and dresses up at the National Trust's Costume Collection at Springhill.

Pula Amphitheatre

Pula Amphitheatre
Pula boasts the best preserved amphitheatre, which is also the only surviving Roman arena to still have its four side towers. While it once housed brutal gladiatorial entertainment, these days it has been known to host performers like Sting and Pavarotti. In the summer the amphitheatre is open 8am to midnight and will cost around £7 for entry.
