Bethesda and St Dogmaels
Derek Brockway undertakes walks around Wales. Here, he takes a walk around the old slate town of Bethesda and a stroll from the village of St Dogmaels.
Derek Brockway leaves his walking boots behind as he soars over the old slate quarry in Bethesda when he tries out the new zip wire there. But later he's back on solid ground when he takes a gentle stroll from the pretty seaside village of St Dogmaels in Pembrokeshire. Derek's partner for the Bethesda walk is Homan Yousofi, an Afghan writer who's made his home in north Wales after studying at Bangor University. After their jaunt on the zip wire the two of them explore the landscape around the old slate town of Bethesda, walking past the old mines and then onto the spectacular glacial valley of Nant Ffrancon. For the second walk, Derek is accompanied by illustrator Anne Cakebread of St Dogmaels. Starting in the village they visit the 12th-century priory before heading along the Teifi estuary and climbing the stunning clifftop path above Cemaes Head.
