Live from the British Library

Steve broadcasts live from the British Library as part of 6 Music Celebrates Libraries, joined by Public Service Broadcasting and DJ Yoda, who performs live.

Steve Lamacq takes his programme to the British Library - the first time a radio show has ever broadcast live from the national library of the United Kingdom. While there, Steve delves into its vaults to unearth some hidden gems which range from the world's first sound recordings on wax cylinders, to original demos by The Who and a radio show hosted by Johnny Rotten. Steve will also look at some modern musical artefacts that include original Beatles lyrics on the back of envelopes and Patti Smith songs penned on scrap paper.

As well as exploring musical memorabilia, Steve has also invited sample supremoes, DJ Yoda and Public Service Broadcasting to each create a track from the Sound Archive. Public Service Broadcasting will take us on a tour and explain how information films and archive footage inspire their music making; while DJ Yoda has 3 hours - the duration of Steve's show - to produce and perform a brand new track, sampled from the British Library's extensive Sound Archive.

This programme is the final part of 6 Music Celebrates Libraries season, which features a selection of shows across the network turning their attention to libraries - from the sound archive of the British Library to exploring the influence of literature on music.
