Portugal's hopes at the World Cup will rest on the shoulders of the Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo. The Real Madrid forward has disappointed at the previous two World Cups he has played in, but under coach Paulo Bento he has transferred his blistering club form onto the international stage.

Jurgen Klinsmann's United States defence have their work cut out shackling a player who scored a brilliant hat-trick in Portugal's play-off victory in Sweden last November.
