Episode 22
The cookery competition reaches the final week. In this programme, the finalists are tasked with cooking an exquisite four-course menu for four leading chefs.
It's the start of Final Week on MasterChef. Sixty amateur cooks have been whittled down to the most promising four. All of them have just one goal: to lift the coveted MasterChef Champion trophy.
Over the next three nights, the finalists face some incredible challenges, putting their skill, ambition and tenacity to the test as they do all they can to impress some of the world's greatest chefs and raise their food to a level they never dreamed possible. At the end of this week, one will walk away the MasterChef Champion.
Tonight it's the most iconic and terrifying challenge yet - The Chef's Table. The finalists are sent to The Holborn Dining Rooms where they are tasked with cooking an exquisite four-course menu, designed by the much loved two-Michelin starred chef Tom Kerridge, for a table of the country's finest chefs: Ashley Palmer-Watts, Michael Caines, Nathan Outlaw, Simon Rogan and Tom Kitchin. With nine Michelin stars between them, they are a set of diners to strike fear into the heart of any professional chef, let alone our four amateurs.
Each contestant will cook one course from the daunting menu; tension is immense and the expectations high in the kitchen. Tom Kerridge has the accolade of being the first chef to gain two Michelin stars for a pub restaurant. His food is anything but pub-grub; each dish requires complex techniques and skill to produce it. The finalists battle with unfamiliar methods and dishes that demand precision cooking, a flawless palate and perfect timing. No one wants to let Tom Kerridge down, and the final four amateur cooks are also out to impress the esteemed guests seated at the Chef's Table - five of the culinary industry's greats. This is their chance to prove to some of the best in the country they have what it takes.
But there is more to come. By the end of this episode, four must become three. Back at MasterChef HQ the four finalists now face an invention test with a twist. Their main ingredient is revealed: the humble chicken. With this at the centre of the dish they must choose from a range of ingredients, and design a dish to showcase the chicken and their skill in handling it. The best two cooks are immediately through to the final tasks.
In a twist, the weakest two will have to cook again. This time they will be against each other, head to head, for their place in the competition. Having come so far together, these two finalists have to put their friendship aside and focus on their goal: to cook to win.
Emotions run high and at the end of this someone will have to walk away from the competition. In just two days one of the final three will be crowned MasterChef Champion 2014.
