Ahmed Kathrada - Anti-Apartheid activist

A 2014 interview with Ahmed Kathrada, who was one of the big names of South Africa's anti-apartheid struggle. With Sarah Montague.

Ahmed Kathrada, one of the big names of South Africa's anti-apartheid struggle, has died. He was sentenced to life in prison alongside Nelson Mandela on Robben Island, spending 26 years of his life locked up. On their release, Nelson Mandela persuaded him to join him in government - an experience he didn't like. But he has never stopped campaigning for the ideals of freedom on which the anti-apartheid movement was based. Appearing on Hardtalk in 2014, Sarah Montague asked him whether South Africa had lived up to those ideals.
