Female GPs

There are more female GPs now than male, according to new figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre 鈥 numbers which have risen by 50 per cent in a decade, while the number of men fell in the last year. But with the proportion of women set to increase and lead to more and more part-timers, and doctors leaving to be mothers after expensive medical training, is this an added burden to the NHS? Is the feminisation of general practice contributing to the 鈥渃risis鈥 in general practice? Or is it a long term benefit? Should more be done to enable GPs to return after motherhood? And does medicine need to change its working patterns so female doctors are attracted to other areas of medicine too? To discuss, Jane is joined by the new Chair of the (RCGP), Dr Maureen Baker.

Every stitch will be scrutinised as three finalists enter the sewing-room for the last time for the final of the . So who will be crowned Britain鈥檚 best amateur sewer?聽 Jane is joined by judges, Patrick Grant and May Martin to discuss聽the three challenges the contestants will face and why a skill which was once deemed unfashionable is now back in vogue again.

Baileys Women's Prize For Fiction

Last night the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction, known before as the Orange Prize for Fiction, announced its 2014 shortlist.聽 Joining Jane to discuss the six books is the chair of this year鈥檚 judges, Helen Fraser, chief executive of the Girls鈥 Day School Trust previously managing director of Penguin Books and Gaby Wood, head of Telegraph books.

Rachel Podger

Rachel Podger is a Baroque violinist, known for her highly accurate, virtuosic playing, and her decidedly non-stuffy stage presence.聽 She decided early on she wanted to study the Baroque violin, and in defiance of her teachers at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama surreptitiously took lessons in the instrument with a private tutor.聽 She鈥檚 one of the winners in the 91热爆 Music Magazine Awards, and she joins Jane Garvey to talk about her passion for her art, and she plays live in the studio.

Male Sex Workers

It has been twenty years since the laws on prostitution have been looked at and over the past few weeks Woman鈥檚 Hour has investigated the proposals to get England and Wales to adopt the 鈥楴ordic model鈥.聽 This would mean the criminalisation聽 of those who pay for sex and the decriminalisation of those who sell it.聽聽 As a part of our series of interviews and discussions on prostitution Jane Garvey speaks to Benedict and Greg, to find out what led them to be sex workers and their response to the proposed criminalisation of those who pay for sex.聽
