Camping in the Dordogne

Camping in the Dordogne
Joe and Aoibhinn stayed in the region known as Le Perigord Noir at a campsite called La Palombiere where you can stay in mobile homes or tents.听 You recommended that you get to know your camping neighbours as soon as you arrive.

The campsite:

Prices for one week in a maxi tent start from 拢471. That鈥檚 based on up to 6 people sharing.

If camping isn鈥檛 your thing, then about 10 minutes from Sarlat you could rent a converted farmhouse or a gite, which will give you a taste of rural France. The gite can sleep up to 10 people and the swimming pool would definitely keep the kids happy.

La Roque Gageac

La Roque Gageac
To kick-start your holiday try a day trip to La Roque Gageac which is a twenty minute drive from the campsite.

The village is a popular spot for picnicking especially along the riverbank which is a perfect vantage point for a stunning view. It is a very popular tourist attraction, so our advice is to come early in the morning.听 Aoibihinn took the boat trip along the river. It's a great way to find out more about the area as a commentary will fill you in on some of the stories behind the sights.

Here, you will experience the real France.听Karen McCarthy from Dublin told us you should try and get to the market around 8.30 in the morning. Stock up on fresh, local produce or gifts to bring home. It is worth coming back to Sarlat when it's not market day. It鈥檚 got some great gift shops, affordable restaurants and the history buffs amongst you will enjoy wandering its medieval streets.
